WiseWrite Festival of One-Act Plays
St. Louis, MO - February, 16 2007 - The 11th Annual WiseWrite Festival of One-Act Plays will be presented at the Loretto-Hilton Center at The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis on March 2, 2007 from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm. About 100 fifth grade students from Cote Brilliante Elementary School in the St. Louis Public School District and Hudson Elementary School in the Webster Groves School District are participating in WiseWrite.
Named 2005’s “Best Children’s Theatre” in St. Louis by the Riverfront Times, WiseWrite is a writing literacy program using play writing, presented by Springboard to Learning & Young Audiences and The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. Working with teaching artists and theatre professionals, participating fifth graders learn playwriting and theater production skills while increasing communication proficiency. WiseWrite is a unique collaborative program in which students not only stretch their imaginations, but also practice and refine their writing and editing skills. The end result of their hard work is a published copy of each student’s play. Their work is celebrated at the WiseWrite Festival of One-Act Plays where sample plays from each class are acted and directed by theatre professionals and presented on The Rep’s Mainstage.
Springboard to Learning & Young Audiences of St. Louis provides art, cultural, humanities, and science programs in schools and community organizations that inspire students and teachers to embrace knowledge and new experiences that broaden their horizons.
As St. Louis’ premiere live, professional theatre, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis presents productions of uncompromising quality in the intimate 760-seat Browning Mainstage and 125-seat Studio spaces of the Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Webster University as well as the new Off-Ramp series at the Grandel Theatre. In addition, The Imaginary Theatre Company, the touring ensemble of The Rep, shares the excitement of live theatre performances with young people throughout Missouri and Illinois each year.
The WiseWrite Festival of One-Act Plays is free and open to the public. Carpooling is recommended.
